Headache or Migraine?

Check Out Related Multimedia

It is estimated that 40 million people in the U.S. suffer with migraine, yet fewer than 40% have sought a doctor's care. Migraine headaches are characterized by their symptoms, and doctors usually ask these questions to determine if your headaches are migraines.

  • Is the pain intense and throbbing, usually on one side of your head?
  • Are your headaches accompanied by nausea or vomiting?
  • Do you notice sensitivity to bright light?
  • Are you especially sensitive to loud noises and some odors?
  • Is your ability to work, study, or be with others diminished?
If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, your headache may be a migraine. To find out for sure, write down your symptoms and talk to your doctor.
