Number 7 in Senior Magazine’s Best Cities For Seniors is San Francisco, otherwise popularly known as the City By The Bay. San Francisco got great numbers for its incredible transportation systems and environment, scoring tops in our survey and analysis of anywhere in the U.S.
Add a low crime rate to the above, lots of healthcare services, and its not surprising that San Francisco residents can look forward to a long and healthy life. Disease and heart attacks are amongst the lowest rates in the country.
On the downside, the things that kept San Francisco from scoring any higher are its low scores in the spirituality index with low congregation and low churchgoer rates, and the high cost of living. Driving up the cost of living for San Francisco seniors are housing costs, though these are by no means the only factors. Everything in San Francisco costs more including food, transportation, healthcare, housing, and utilities. This is not a city to go retire if you have a low budget.
Given the economic issues, San Francisco still scores amazingly high and if you can afford it, the city is an incredible place to spend your senior years.
San Francisco California gets the nod for Senior Magazine’s 2007 number 7 city in the U.S. for seniors.
